Top ten characters in The Witcher

Netflix’ imagining of The Witcher has released to much fanfare of the 20th December with many viewers binging through the series in one day. The Witcher has popular following due to the success of the games by CD Projekt Red in recent years. However, the series is based on the original polish book series of the same name by the author Andrzej Sapkowski. Today we are going to look at the top characters featured in the series. Disclaimer: This post may contain spoilers for the series, so if you haven’t see it get on Netflix now and watch it.

10. Borch Three Jackdaws (aka Villentretenmerth)

While only featuring in one episode of the series, Borch Three Jackdaws is a fantastic character and a favourite of both series watchers and book readers alike. Although his CGI dragon form wasn’t the greatest , the character still remains an important figure in the series.

9. Tissaia de Vries

The leader of Aretuza, Tissaia, has played a large role in the Netflix series so far, finding Yennefer and training here to become a powerful sorceress. Being one of the most powerful magician and a high ranking member of the brotherhood, she is an important figure and will continue to be an influential character.

8. Fringilla Vigo

The Nilfgaardian sorceress, Fringilla is another important and powerful sorceress. She is charged with advising the Nilfgaardian kingdom and keeping them in check. However her lust for power leads her to ally with the Nilfgaardians and assist them in their invasion. She will continue to be an important character in The Witcher series.

7. Mousesack

The wise and powerful druid, Mousesack, is from the islands of Skellige. Charged with assisting and protecting the princess Cirilla, he filled an important role in the first season of the series. Unfortunately, his demise means he will no longer be around in the future of the series.

6. Queen Calanthe

The lion queen of Cintra, played a huge role in the first season and helped set up Princess Cirilla’s backstory. Unfortunately her death along with Mousesack’s means she will no longer be gracing the screens in future seasons of The Witcher.

5. Yarpen

Another character that provides some comic relief to the show. Only being featured briefly in one episode, Yarpen still has been shown to be an important character. We should see him in future seasons interacting and helping out the main protagonists.

4. Yennefer

Hailing from Vengerburg, Yen is one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful sorceress in the Witcher series. Coming from a troubled family and having deformities, she has overcome a lot of hardship to get where she is. However, she needed to sacrifice a lot, which she regrets. Her relationship with Geralt is strained and troubled, however hopefully in future seasons we can see how important they are to each other.

3. Ciri

Princess Cirilla, or Ciri, is one of the three main protagonists of The Witcher series. She has some unknown powers and is an important part of the prophecies in The Witcher universe. Her backstory has been set up in the first season of The Witcher and we shall see her power grow in further seasons.

2. Jaskier (aka Dandelion)

Jaskier the bard provides some comedic relief, some great singing and banter with Geralt to help flesh out his character. Therefore, he is one of the most important characters featured in the Witcher series. His song ‘Toss a Coin‘ has already become beloved among series fans.

Arguably the most important character from The Witcher series, Geralt is the main focal point for most episodes. He is a skilled Witcher, wanting just a simple life killing monsters and getting paid. However, he always seems to get caught up in the troubles of other humans. This is all linked to his destiny in the world and he will likely never escape it. He seems to be coming to terms with this fact, and we shall see him grow in future seasons and always remain an important character.
