Top ten busiest flight routes 2019

Here we have update to the busiest flight routes post we made last year. All the flights this year are domestic, same as the previous year. Let’s have a look and see if there are any big changes since last post.

10. Jeddah to Riyadh

Number ten on the list has bumped the route between Shanghai and Beijing which has dropped to 17th in fact. This is probably due to the increased coverage and popularity of the high-speed rail in China. 35,149 flights across 5 carriers travel the route between Jeddah and Riyadh each year.

9. Los Angeles to San Fransisco

Fallen from its number 7 spot, the LAX to SFO route has dropped to 9th. Even though the amount of flights on the route has increased from 34,897 to 35,365 it has dropped in rankings. This indicates a big increase in some of the other flight routes in the world.

8. Jakarta to Surabaya

Another new entrant to the top ten list, knocking out quite a few other busy routes. Over 37,762 flights are operating on this route over a year.

7. Sapporo to Tokyo

Another returning route, although it too has dropped one spot. 4 carriers compete on this route, operating 38,271 flights in the previous year.

6. Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

A new entrant shaking up the top ten list of busient flight routes in the world. Only narrowly beating out the Sapporo – Tokyo route with 39,291 flights in a year. This increase is likely due to the growth of flights in South East Asia that Vietnam is benefiting from.

5. Fukuoka to Tokyo

The second Japanese route on the list and another returning route. It has lost a spot since last year and is only narrowly besting the Vietnamese route below it. 39,406 flights have been operated by 4 carriers in the last year.

4. Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro

Moving up a spot from last year, and overtaking the top Japanese route. Three carriers have been operating the 39,747 flights that flew between these two cities.

3. Bombay to Delhi

Our top three has remained the same since, with the top Indian route claiming third place again. With 45,188 flights between the two major cities the flight routes above must be packed.

2. Melbourne to Sydney

The top Australian route has retained its place at number 2 busiest route. Over 54,102 flights operate each year on the 706 km (~438 miles) route. There was actually slightly less flights than the previous year, 417 less.

1. Seoul to Jeju

The South Korean route once again absolutely dominates all the other routes. There was 79,460 flights operated on this route by 7 carriers! This actually up from 64,991, which is an incredible boost in flights. The skies over South Korea are full of planes running this route.

Have you been on any of these routes? Did you happen to see another plane while in flight? These routes would be the best chance to see that!
