It’s time to look at the longest flights in the world for 2018. We’ve covered the busiest routes, as well as punctual airlines and airports. Let’s dive into these mid-air marathons and see what are the longest routes in the world!

10. Johannesburg (JNB) – Atlanta (ATL)

Delta Airlines runs our number 10 slot on a Boeing 777-200LR. This route covers 13,581 km (8,439 mi) and takes between 16:03 to 16:55 hours.

9. San Francisco (SFO) – Singapore (SIN)

There are two competing airlines on the number 9 route, Singapore Airlines and United Airlines. The distance between these two hubs is 13,593 km (8,446 mi). Singapore runs an Airbus A350-900 (sometimes the ULR variant). United has chosen the Boeing 787-9 for this route. The flights take 16:25 to 17:20 hours or 16:30 to 17:35 hours for United and Singapore respectively.

8. New York (JFK) – Manila (MNL)

Another American hub on our list, this route is operated by Philippine Airlines. The flag carrier uses one of its brand new Airbus A350-900s for the route. It takes between
17:10 to 17:30 hours to cover the 13,712 km (8,520 mi) route.

7. Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) – Sydney (SYD)

QANTAS has chosen to run an Airbus A380-800 from the main Australian hub to the main Texan hub. The aircraft smashes the 13,804 km (8,577 mi) route in 16:50 to 17:05 hours.

6. Houston (IAH) – Sydney (SYD)

Our second Texan airport, and to the same Australian airport as the other pairing. United have chosen again to run a Boeing 787-9 on their long-haul routes. It takes the 787 17:30 hours to complete the 13,834 km (7,470 mi) journey.

5. Los Angeles (LAX) – Singapore (SIN)

The flight from the major west coast hub to Singapore takes the number five spot on the list. Singapore airlines again runs this route and again chooses the Airbus A350-900ULR. Depending on the winds the flight takes between 15:00 to 17:50 hours to finish the 14,113 km (8.769 mi) flight.

4. Auckland (AUK) – Dubai (DXB)

The first route pair on our list not containing a US airport! It is also the second route on the list that is operated on an Airbus A380-800. Of course it is Emirates who run this super jumbo on the 14,200 km (8,923 mi) route. It takes around 17:05 to 17:20 hours, quicker than some of the shorter routes on the list.

3. Perth (PER) – London (LHR)

QANTAS’ longest route is also the third longest route in the world. It has been used as a proof of concept for QANTAS’ Project Sunrise. A Boeing 787-9 is used to complete the 14,499 km (9,009 mi) in 17:20 hours.

2. Auckland (AUK) – Doha (DOH)

The second pair to feature the New Zealand hub of Auckland, Kia Ora! Qatar Airways run this route from their home hub on a Boeing 777-200LR. Although they a planning to upgrade this to a newer Airbus A350. It takes 17:40 to 18:20 hours to fly the 14,535 km (9,032 mi) to complete the marathon distance.

1. Newark (EWR) – Singapore (SIN)

Singapore Airlines is a major feature on this list having three of the top slots. This is likely due to Singapore being a major airline and its hub being quite far from other major hubs. This flight is run on a A350-900ULR in an all premium set up, no economy! It is flown over 15,344 km (9,534 mi) which takes between 18:30 and 18:45 hours.

What do you think about spending this much time on a plane? In business class it might be alright, economy might be a different story. Have you taken any of these flights? Let us know in the comments.
